Respond and Recover With Confidence
The online Master of Science degree in Emergency Management from Anna Maria College prepares graduates for leadership roles that protect our communities against natural and technological hazards and prepare us to respond and recover from disasters. This longstanding program was established on campus in 1999 and was one of the earliest graduate programs to appear on FEMA’s Higher Education list. Today the program is compliant with the values and guidelines of FEMA and the IAEM (International Association of Emergency Managers).
The M.S. in Emergency Management provides you with both theoretical and practical knowledge in the key facets of emergency management, including:
• Reducing vulnerabilities through hazard mitigation
• Managing emergency functions within standard operational frameworks
• Building coalitions and resources needed for rapid response
• Planning, conducting and evaluating exercises and drills
• Linking recovery with the values of sustainable development
Although the M.S. in Emergency Management is not a preparatory program for the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation, it provides you with the knowledge and competencies that can pave your career path toward professional recognition, fulfillment, and respect.
Organizations in the public, private, and non-profit sectors recognize the value of reducing the risk of a disaster while planning for effective response and recovery when needed. Project funding and hiring in emergency management remains high. FEMA and other federal agencies within the Department of Homeland Security, the CDC, and EPA, plus state agencies and departments are employing emergency management graduates. Transportation and other infrastructure sectors, such as water systems are a major focus. Within the private sector utilities, travel and tourism, finance, and consulting are areas that employ AMC graduates. Major non-profit agencies that are important contributors to emergency management, both domestically and internationally, rely on the knowledge of emergency managers, too.
