March 9, 2010 — Everett G. Pierce, MPA, professor and department chair of Fire Science programs at Anna Maria College, was recently re-designated as Chief Fire Officer (CFO) by the Commission on Professional Credentialing. The CFO designation is an exclusive commendation held by fewer than 700 fire-safety professionals worldwide and is designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence in the industry and the community. This is the second time Chief Pierce has been selected for the designation.
The commission awarded Chief Pierce the CFO designation on March 9, 2010, based on his achievements in seven measured categories: experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. Chief Pierce was originally granted the CFO designation in 2001, but all Chief Fire Officers must periodically reapply for the honor to ensure they continue their professional and community development.
A 45-year veteran of firefighting and fire science education, Chief Pierce is responsible for the operation and development of Anna Maria College’s prestigious Fire Science program, including the innovative online Bachelor of Fire Science Administration and Master of Fire Science and Administration degrees. Chief Pierce spent 20 years conducting fire training at the state level and 25 years as an adjunct professor at the National Fire Academy, and has taught and administered programs at Anna Maria College for 10 years. As department chair of the AMC Fire Science program, Chief Pierce embodies Anna Maria College’s commitment to maintain a faculty rich with real-world firefighting and training experience.
